PUT YOUR LIFESTYLE ON THE CO2e BALANCE

*Our lifestyle in Switzerland produces very high greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂e), more than twice the global average. To change this, we in Switzerland have set ourselves the goal of reducing our domestic emissions by half by 2030. By 2050, we want to achieve net-zero. *

What would it mean for you if you tried to reduce your CO₂e emissions by half?

CO₂e EMISSIONS IN SWITZERLAND

In 2021, Switzerland’s emissions amounted to 112 million tonnes of CO₂e: That’s 12 800 kilograms of CO₂e per person! Around a third of these emissions were produced in Switzerland. The other two thirds come from goods and services produced for us abroad and from international travel.

WHAT CAN I DO?

How can we reduce these emissions? Even if you don’t own a home where you could change the heating system, or even if you rely on long-distance travel to visit your family, can you still reduce your emissions and thereby contribute to a healthy climate?

ARE YOU BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE?

The big black bag shows how much CO₂e was emitted on average per person in Switzerland in 2021.

Can you manage to emit only half as much?

On the wall next to the scale, we have selected actions that produce different amounts of greenhouse gases (in kg CO₂e). Depending on the amounts,
the bags are correspondingly heavier or lighter.

Choose the weights that apply to you and hang them on the balance. Are you in the green area or even to the right of it? Which emissions play the biggest role for you? Can you reduce them even further?
