Introduction

Welcome!

In May 2025, the Zurich Tagesanzeiger newspaper ran the headline:

‘Endless drought’ and ‘mega heat’:
What’s the truth behind the alarming summer forecasts?

Now, we know how the summer turned out and whether or not we were spared a mega heatwave. But the fact is: it’s getting warmer, and droughts and heavy rainfall are on the increase.

And we know the cause: our emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO₂ – primarily from the combustion of coal, oil and natural gas. They are driving up temperatures worldwide, in Switzerland even twice as fast as the global average.

We also know what to do about it: reduce emissions quickly and significantly and remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. Numerous solutions already exist and many people are championing them with great commitment and creativity – in everyday life, research, politics and business.

Every step counts – no matter how small – towards keeping temperatures lower. But we need to move much more quickly. Because it’s not just about CO₂. It’s about us. It’s about our health, our safety, our future.

We need a healthy planet Earth to nourish, sustain and delight us. We need intact ecosystems to provide us with clean water and nutritious food. And we need stable living conditions that allow us to live peacefully in our homes – and to stay there.

That’s why we cannot allow temperatures to rise much further.

And that’s why we need to stop greenhouse gas emissions as quickly as possible.

And to do this, we need you – in whatever ways you can make a difference.

Now.

The exhibition

is divided into different thematic areas. Follow the coloured screens from red to blue to purple or choose a topic that interests you the most:

THE WORLD OF CO₂ shows the role that CO₂ plays in our lives, for example for plants and food, and how it ensures that planet Earth has a temperature that makes it habitable for us in the first place.

Through our activities, we are increasingly pushing Earth’s natural systems OUT OF BALANCE. For example, our high CO₂ and greenhouse gas emissions are causing the climate to change so rapidly that many living beings cannot adapt to the new conditions. As a result, the very basis of our existence is at risk.

SOLUTIONS wanted! We must act urgently to stop these developments: Where and how can CO₂ emissions be reduced? How can we remove excess CO₂ from the atmosphere? And what role do technologies, nature, society – and each and every one of us – play in this?

Since the climate is already changing, we also depend on ADAPTATION: How can we mitigate the consequences and prepare for new living conditions – in cities, mountains and everyday life? And how must we reshape our relationships – with ourselves, with one another and with nature – to meet these challenges?

JOIN IN! Share your thoughts with us, take a break and leave a personal message for planet Earth.

Finally, on the lower floor you will find our climate fountain, an art installation about glaciers and more fascinating things to discover.

We wish you an inspiring visit!

WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN LIFE?

Many people are worried they will have to give up things they enjoy because of climate change. But what if the things that really matter in life are other things?

Try our thought experiment:

Imagine you are travelling to a new world and must leave all your memories behind. You can only bring five of them with you. Which ones do you choose? Take a moment to think: What fulfils you, what sustains you? Which memories and experiences do you not want to lose?
